Though it's important to stay on schedule with your medications, there may be times when you accidentally miss a dose or take one late. This could happen to anyone taking medications on a regular basis.
As we mentioned earlier, it's important that a certain amount of medication be in your body at all times in order for the effects of treatment to be seen. Skipping doses may lower the benefits of the medication, and make it more difficult for your body to destroy the virus.
If you DO accidentally miss a peginterferon injection, be sure to tell your healthcare provider as soon as possible. He or she can give you specific instructions on whether you should take the missed dose right away, or skip it and start again on the next scheduled dose. They can also give you ideas for making a plan to help you remember to take your medicine on time.
You should make a note of the times when you miss taking your medications. If you see that there are certain times when this happens, you may be able to adjust your schedule so that you can take your medications at the time when you are less likely to forget.
If you miss a dose of medication, you may not notice the effects immediately. Although you may not feel any different, there ARE real consequences to skipping your medications. Not taking your medications may lower your chance of getting rid of the virus.
