Things to Do and Not Do While Following Your Hepatitis C Treatment Program
As part of your treatment program, it is also important that you keep your liver as healthy as you can. To do this, you should avoid using:
- Alcohol
- Caffeine
- Tobacco products
- Illegal drugs.
These items contain substances that can:
- Affect the success of the treatment
- Make your side effects worse
- Damage your liver.
During your treatment, you will also want to avoid strenuous activities. This includes high-intensity exercise like long distance running and lifting heavy weights. It is important, though, to do some light to moderate exercise on a regular basis. This can help you overcome the fatigue that many people with
hepatitis C feel. Low-impact exercises, like walking, swimming, bike riding, and yoga are good ways to begin an exercise program. Be sure to discuss any exercise plan with your healthcare provider before you start.
It is also very important to drink lots of water, juice, or other clear fluids. People on combination therapy need about 10 to 16 glasses a day.
