HCV Combination Therapy: Who Should Not Use It?While combination therapy (peginterferon and ribavirin) is the treatment of choice for many people with hepatitis C, some people should not use these drugs. Pregnant women should avoid ribavirin, as it can damage the unborn baby. People with depression or a recent history of drug and alcohol abuse should also avoid the therapy. Though HCV combination therapy appears to have very few interactions with food or other drugs, anyone who has had allergic reactions to medications in the past should notify their healthcare provider before treatment begins.
