Preventing the Spread of Hepatitis C
There are some things you can do to prevent spreading
hepatitis C if you are already infected. You should not donate blood, take any illegal drugs, or share any type of needles. This is because the virus is spread mostly through infected blood.
Don't let other people borrow your razor, toothbrush, or anything else that might have blood on it.
If you are in a monogamous relationship, you should talk with your healthcare provider about the risk of passing
hepatitis C virus (HCV) to your partner through sex. You should also consider having your partner tested for HCV. If you have more than one sex partner, you or your partners should always use condoms when you have sex.
These suggestions can help stop the virus from being spread to others. Also, remember that hepatitis C is not passed through everyday contact with others, such as:
- Touching people
- Shaking hands
- Hugging
- Kissing
- Sharing eating utensils or drinking glasses.
