In addition to the weekend, you'll also need to plan ahead for the times when you're away from home.
Writing out a plan will help with this. A written plan will ensure that you take your combination therapy with you on vacation, and that you pick a specific time to take your doses. You should pay special attention to the time if you travel to an area that's in a different time zone. As we mentioned earlier, you may find that carrying a beeping reminder helps you remember when to take your medications.
Your medications should be stored in a cool, dry place -- just as you would store them if you were at home. For example, if you are at the beach all day it might be easy to forget your medications in the car, where it can get very warm. So you'll need to plan ahead for how you'll store them while you're traveling.
If you'll be taking certain forms of transportation, such as an airplane, you may need to carry your medications in special containers. You may also need a note from your doctor stating that you need to carry them with you. Please do NOT pack your medications in checked luggage -- carry them onboard with you instead.
Most airlines will let you carry syringes onboard if the medication has a printed label that shows the name of the medical office or pharmacy, or the company that manufactures the medication. To avoid problems, be sure to call your specific airline first to make sure.
If you have any questions about taking or storing your medications when you travel, be sure to talk to your healthcare provider.
