Hepatitis C Home > INCIVEK Dosage

For treating chronic hepatitis C with INCIVEK, the standard dosage is 1125 mg taken two times a day. This medication is only approved for use in combination with peginterferon alfa and ribavirin. These three medications are taken together for 12 weeks, after which peginterferon alfa and ribavirin are taken for another 12 to 36 weeks.

An Introduction to Dosing With INCIVEK

There is only one standard recommended dose of INCIVEK® (telaprevir). As is always the case, do not adjust your dosage unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.

INCIVEK Dosage for Hepatitis C

The recommended dosage of INCIVEK for treating genotype 1 chronic hepatitis C is 1125 mg (three tablets) two times a day. Doses should be given about 10 to 14 hours apart with a meal or snack that contains about 20 grams of fat. Examples of foods that contain about 20 grams of fat include:
  • A bagel with cream cheese
  • One half cup of nuts or trail mix
  • Three tablespoons of peanut butter
  • Two ounces of cheddar cheese.
If you take INCIVEK on an empty stomach or with a low-fat or no-fat meal, this will significantly decrease the absorption of the drug, perhaps making it less effective.
INCIVEK should only be used in combination with two other medicines: peginterferon alfa (Pegasys®, PEG-Intron®) and ribavirin (Copegus®, Rebetol®, RibaPak®, Ribasphere®). These 3 medications are taken together for 12 weeks. If, however, an inadequate response is observed after four weeks of treatment, the medicines may be stopped then.
Peginterferon alfa and ribavirin treatment will continue for an additional 36 weeks after INCIVEK is stopped. People with undetectable viral loads after 4 and 12 weeks of INCIVEK treatment may only receive peginterferon and ribavirin for an additional 12 weeks.
