A healthcare provider may recommend Pegasys® (peginterferon alfa-2a) to people with chronic hepatitis B or C infections. Specifically, this drug is approved for treating hepatitis B infections in adults, and hepatitis C infections in adults and children as young as five years old. Dosing guidelines for Pegasys will vary, depending on several factors, such as:
- Your age
- Your weight (and height for children)
- How well your kidneys are functioning.
This medicine comes as an injection that is given just under the skin every week for 24 or 48 weeks. Pegasys comes in a vial, a prefilled syringe, or an autoinjector. All forms are for a single use only. Any unused portion must be discarded; it cannot be saved for later.
