Pegasys Drug Interactions

If someone is using Pegasys and combines it with aldesleukin, methadone, or certain other drugs, it may lead to potentially serious interactions. Some of these reactions can increase the risk for side effects or decrease the effectiveness of the medications. Before starting treatment with Pegasys, your healthcare provider needs to know about all prescription or nonprescription drugs you are taking, as well as any vitamins or supplements.

The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative interactions that can occur when Pegasys is combined with any of the drugs listed above.
 
Aldesleukin
Interferons, including Pegasys, may increase the risk for aldesleukin side effects. In general, aldesleukin should not be combined with interferon medications.
 
Fluoxetine
Pegasys may decrease the level of fluoxetine in the blood, making it less effective. Check with your healthcare provider before using these medications together.
