The Pegasys Injection Kit

Where Should I Keep the Pegasys?

Your Pegasys peginterferon should be kept in the refrigerator. If you are also taking ribavirin pills as part of combination therapy for your hepatitis C, the pills do not need to be refrigerated.

You may want to explain to your family where the Pegasys will be kept, why you are taking it, and that it could be dangerous if anyone else takes your medications. It is especially important that your medications be kept out of the reach of children. If a child were to take them, especially ribavirin, it could cause serious problems or even death.

Many people store their Pegasys on a middle shelf near the front of the refrigerator. Every time they open the door, they see it and are reminded to take their injection.

It is better not to store your peginterferon near the back of the refrigerator, or in the side of the door. The temperature can vary too much in these areas. Storing the syringes or vials in the door also makes it likely for them to be shaken every time someone opens and closes the refrigerator door.

Most importantly, do not store your Pegasys in the freezer. This could damage the medicine and make it not work as well. Also, keep the peginterferon out of direct sunlight.
