Getting Rid of Used Syringes (Peginterferon)
After giving your injection, you will need to safely dispose of your needle and syringe. To do this, your healthcare provider will give you a special device called the "Point-Lok."
Here's how to use it.
First, place the red Point-Lok on a flat, stable surface -- like a table or kitchen counter. As soon as you're done giving yourself the injection, put the needle directly into the opening of the Point-Lok, and push it down until it won't go any farther. This will cover the needle, and lock it into place so no one will accidentally get stuck by the needle. You can now put the whole syringe, including the red Point-Lok, into the sharps container. Remember -- never throw your syringes into the garbage; the sharps container is the only place where they should go.
